Est 2021.
I think this is a year that will forever be embedded in our brains. And like a lot of other amazing small businesses, Swegan was born in lockdown. It started, as many great ideas, with a hangover. I spent part of my lockdown in Chester with my parents. Throughout lockdown I really struggled to find vegan food, my local take answer to a vegan option was salad in a pittaβ¦.
I have always been interested in cooking and creating new recipes. I learnt to cook from my mum and grandma, growing up in Sweden you learn to cook with fresh produce from a young age, and most people grow up having a keen interest in cooking. So I thought if no one was going to provide me with the vegan food I craved, why not create it myself. I roped my mum and a couple of my best friends in on the idea and Swegan Kitchen was born.
Months of preparation and we finally opened as a takeaway in August 2021. We quickly became the top-rated partner on Deliveroo. Within 7 days of trading, we got invited to our first street food event. We loved it. And very quickly made the decision to change our business to become a street food vendor. That was 8 months ago. We now have 2 kitchens and permanent spots in London, Birmingham and Manchester, with other pop-ups across the country.
